My 3 Summer Body Commandments
People ask me how I get summer ready and tell me their frustrations about never getting the results they want. I completely understand. It’s confusing with all different workouts, measuring of food, gym gear you’re told that you need, supplements that will “boost your metabolism,” which gym god you should pray to… and the list goes on and on…It’s ridiculous!
I’m all about keeping it simple and I’m going to share with you my 3 Summer Body Commandments that will torch fat faster, with less effort, and save you more money than any complicated workouts, miracle pill, or any other gimmick out there.
#1. Eliminate sugar and carbs: This is number one for a reason! It’s the hardest and the most critical step to getting your summer body. If you get lethargic after a couple of hours of not eating, your body is addicted to carbs. It will literally ignore the dozens of pounds of energy stored as body fat and compel you to eat. Your body does this because it has forgotten how to burn fat for energy instead of carbs. This process really sucks at first and you’ll feel sick for at least a couple of days but it could go on for over two weeks. Headaches, nausea, and muscle soreness should all be expected. Stay with it! These are withdrawal symptoms. Once your body realizes that it isn’t going to be getting any more carbs or sugar, it does something amazing: It remembers how to start burning those pounds of stored body fat for energy and we begin to feel incredible.

#2. Eat your food within a short window of time (6-8 hours): Only eating during a short period of time is best used after step 1 is in place because once your body can burn fat easily, you’ll naturally want to go longer and longer between meals. It’s not that your body stops needing calories, its that your body is literally eating its own fat for its caloric needs! By eating a high fat, moderate protein, very low-carb, you keep the master storage hormone, insulin, low and that allows fat burning to shift into second gear. Does it matter when you eat? Not really, you should pick a time that is the least disruptive to your life. I prefer dinner since this is when my family bonds every evening. Lunch is also a good bet because you can usually get some walking in before you take your first bite.

#3. Walk while fasted: This is the final step and it builds off of the prior two and it kicks fat burning into turbo mode. Before you eat your meals for the day, go walking. That’s it. Super simple. If its been a while and you’re really out of shape, just start with 20 minutes. It can be just going around the block with the dog or on the treadmill at the gym. Just make sure you do it every day before you eat. As you get slimmer and in better shape, gradually increase the time spent and try to walk a little faster. It won’t take long until you’re looking great and feeling even better.

While the steps are simple, they aren’t easy. Is anything worth having easy though? Carrying around those extra pounds, feeling insecure in your bathing suit, and being uncomfortable in your own skin at the beach is even harder to live with than these 3 simple steps.
I encourage you to look into these steps and consult with your physician if necessary before following my 3 Summer Body Commandments.
